Rear Interior Dimensions

Hi everyone,

Interested in the new HHR SS (when it becomes available) and would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with interior dimensions in the back, with the rear seats up (not folded down).

I'm looking for:
- shortest dimension (front to back) from back of rear seat, to the closed tailgate
- shortest dimension (side to side) between the plastic trim

I have a dog crate that I'd like to be able to fit in the back, without folding the seats forward.

If anyone can help with this I would really appreciate it!
Thanks.

D

Just checked you have 25.5 inches from seat back to inner tailgate and 39 inches side to side inside the molded deck lid supports.

I can fit my dog crate behind the rear seats with no problem. Dimensions are: 30L X 21W X 24H.

I find my dogs actually behave better with the crate back there then with the seats laid down.

Good Luck.

With the back seats down what is the total length from front seat backs to the tailgate?

That would be 58 inches the seat back and slightly reclined. On a resent trip to Dallas I picked up a rigid frame Harley complete with motor. Removed the front end put down a hardwood floor panel and drove back to Austin averaging 31 mpg at 70 mph.

Hmm, thats less than I expected. I went out and measured my VW GTI which is 12 inches shorter than the HHR and it has basically the same amount of space with maybe a little less height. Its 33 inches with backseats up and 55 inches with them folded down. Usable width is 39.5 inches. I was looking into buying an HHR and partly due to need for increased cargo carrying but now I am confused. ITs almost exactly the same.

UPDATE: Went over to the Chevy dealer around the corner to confirm those dimensions you gave. Actually I found the total from the back of the front seats to the hatch to be about 66 inches with the hatch closed and thats with the front seat at a good position for my 5'11" frame. With the back seats up I measured about 33 inches total. So overall it is bigger than my GTI especially with the seats down and makes more sense given its foot longer size.

Those measurements I gave were with the seat pushed back and reclined I also measured from the top of the seat giving the least inner dimension with the back seat down. Sorry you had to go out of your way to get measurements I would have been happy to fill in the max measurements as well. But at least you got to go the the dealership and play in the new HHRs thats always a good thing.
