Rear Parking Asssit?

Was a rear parking assist ever a factory option for an HHR? I stopped at a used car dealer just to check out a maroon '07 (not that I'm upgrading, I just wanted to see the price), and it had the rear park assist sensors on the rear bumper... I've never seen that before on an HHR. Is it an aftermarket part, or did GM actually make them on HHRs?

My sister has that on her Tahoe. Since I can't seem to gage the distance when backing up sometimes, that would be cool.

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought too! I had a really hard time backing into my grandpa's barn the other day because it's harder to see behind it then a regular car. I thought it'd be an option worth mentioning for Christmas....

Walmart has a backup TV system for under 80 bucks.

No. Back up assist is not now, nor has it ever been, offered as an option on the HHR.

Exactly. Sounds like somebody added the mod.

Ok, that's what I thought! It was just odd because it even had the little round sensors on the bumper that were colored the same as the car.

Would be a good option for GM to add IMO.

I guess someone could have pulled them off another GM, and drilled the bumper for a stock look/fit? I wonder about the rest of the wiring & components though...

I wrote my state rep. I think this should be standard on all SUV's, Minivans, and Wagons.
it costs about $200 per car, and we had an incident where a little girl was backed over and killed.

The rep never wrote back, but I believe this should be mandated.

Why does everything have to involve the government?? You want one install it, why get the government to make the manufacturers install them on all vehicles?? That's why we have stuff like mandatory ABS, mandatory TCS etc. Useful, yes but some people would rather not have all that stuff and in addition all it does is make the cost of vehicles go up and then people act like it's the fault of the manufacturer that the car costs more.
