recharging air conditioner

If you are having a problem with it, as Mongo said in a posting on the previous page: "Take it to the dealer (or reputable A/C Specialist) if it isn't blowing cold air. Trying to fix it yourself may make it worse."

Which could be said for any DIY repair. Having had multiple offspring with older cars, one of the more common problems I've experienced over the years was slight refrigerant seepage which was easily overcome for us each summer with a boost of R134. While most DIY a/c repairs involving refrigerant are not permanent solutions, not everyone has the budget for professional repair and to those I say there is a wealth of information out there, if you're willing to take the time to develop a better understanding of system design and requirements.

Well, the point I was trying to make was that if one is looking for "illustrations" they most likely are unfamiliar with the system, as well as the procedure. Being that A/C units can be quite complex as noted in previous postings in this thread, as well as governmental regulations for the handling of a/c units in certain areas, it likely isn't really something one should be messing with.
I agree with your comment about a wealth of info out there - but much like I would never recommend anyone mess with an airbag (and yes, there is quite a bit of information out there on them), I'd suggest taking the a/c issues to a pro unless the person really knows what they are doing.
Ya gotta remember, we know nothing about the posters capability, experience, mechanical aptitude etc.. And look at some of the posts and the variety of experience they have - some people don't even read their owners manuals, and have to ask about what tire pressures to run, or can't find the battery, yet others think nothing about doing an engine swap or installing a supercharger.

hello,
I am new to this forum and looking for help with recharging the coolant for my air conditioner. It worked fine last summer but I cannot get any cold air to come out since then. I looked under the hood and have two possible sites to refill, but I am not sure which one to use. Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. My husband normally handles these things, but he is gone for Military training and I am on my own here.
I have a 2006 LS.
Thank you

pook555 made that post over three years ago and hasn't been back since the day after. As far as an 'illustration' as asked for in post #11, I really don't know of one. In the HVAC section of the factory tech manual, there are many illustrations of the sub sections as well as charts such as fastener tightening specs, performance tables, troubleshooting charts, capacities charts, etc.; but no one all encompassing 'illustration'. It's a 123 page section. These systems are far more complicted now days than the one of some years ago. Adding refrigerant isn't always the solution when they don't blow cold. Troubleshooting done with the proper tools and equipment is important.
Mongo was mentioned earler also. Where is he? Seems that he hasn't been around for a while or is it just my imagination?

New Bot, same as the old Bot. Not a Bot!
Odd that it's all cut 'n paste though. Why do they want addresses all of a sudden? One time asked for phone number. Just makes me uncomfortable what with phishing scares and all.
