remote conversion

Hi everyone, Does any one know if you can take a non remote start 06 and convert it to a remote start with OE module or wiring kit ? I bought 2 remotes and found out they will not work with my car.

welcome to the site. Is your hhr a manual or auto? Manual doesnt have have remote start. Was it a rental car before you got it? Most rental HHR didn't have remote start but I thought someone or people had rentals and got remote start after

Auto. Yes a rental. I have not done wiring diagram research yet but seems the harness would be the same as the LS ot LT ??? I'm hoping for plug and play.

Took my rental into a friend @ a GM dealership. He instructed me to buy a new BCM and he could flash it to do what I want but no gaurantee. I will try this to see. I commited to the remotes already. Seems once the factory flashes a BCM you cannot change it so you must start with a new one.
$160.00 or so later we'll see.

Just a quick thought on the reflash. I think it is quite possible to reflash a bcm. However, I understand that there are different bcms being uses by GM. After all, engine computers get reflashed quite frequently.

Yes the ECM as you put it can be flashed/updated. I think the bcm (body control module) can not be reflashed but only replaced looking at past post and such.

OK 1 tech thinks he can flash the BCM with his Tech2 scanner. But he said I had to be sure the reciever module was installed by factory. Located in left rear inner panel. The fun begins. Rear seat must come out. So... everything in rear must come out. It was an expierience but mission accomplished. Good thing though, The prevous " pig " who owned the car did not respect my baby (car) at all by, well lets just say she had kids in the car seats for a long long long long time. Clorox and Fabrees helped reverse what failed humanity can do to kids and a car.

This is one reason people turn out the way they do. Discusting parents !

ANY WAY, the module is installed and it made the whole event worth while. 4 to 5 hrs - PHEUUUU. I have a BCM ready to flash if the one I have in car cannot be. I really want Remote Start !!! Updates will come.

Further Question to Remote Start Conversion

First, what a great forum. Learned a lot already.

I have a black 08 ls rental unit. Only had 19k and I got for a tremendous price about 6 weeks ago.

Been looking to add remote start to it. So I've been researching what I could.

I took my remote apart and realized that it has all the contacts (the things the buttons on the remote touch to activate that function) on the circuit board for all hhr's. So with this in mind I borrowed my Dad's remote (that has remote start) and put my circuit board in his remote. I press the button for remote start and my hhr flashes, but doesn't start. Could some of you with experience advise whether my hhr could have been wired for it but maybe just not have the relay needed.

I also noticed going thru my DIC i can turn remote start on or off. wasn't sure if this was normal either.

any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated.

God Bless,

HHROwner

you definately need the remote start in the DIC, active. That is for one. You probably have to find the receiveer and attach it to the remote start module. i'll look into it for you and get you a diagram or something.
