It was on mine, that was my very first question on my very first visit to the service dept. Mine was a rental with no AP3 and no wiring harness, and no TPMS reset and no remote doorlocks for that matter (found a fob in the storage area). ALL of the options showed in the DIC. I had to fight the service dept. to get RCDLR reprogrammed so that those things now work.

Mine is a 2008 LT Fleet, I still am not sure what the diff is between LS and LT Fleet, the radio maybe.

Is this the first time GM published erroneous info?

No, I've been driving since 1968, restoring GM classics for 25 years, and I can tell you, this isn't the first time. I guess I should know better than trust them.

Doesn't sound like a FOB associated w/ the HHR, just one that was found laying around.............

Idling actually harms the engine...

So does cranking a car and immediately driving away. If the car has been sitting for 10-12 hours and you crank it up and start down the road its not good for the engine either.

Plus as many have said, its nice to have the windows defrosted so you can actually, oh I don't know, see out of the windows :)

That is what I was going to say... especially in cold weather.

I have not used the remote start much in the summer, but will use it frequently on cold colorado mornings....

the other thing I use the remote starter for is my puppy. if i just have to run into the store for a min, i'll remote start the car, so its locked and the ac keeps my dog alive...

Prior to having a car with remote start I didn't see the benefits either. Now in all honesty I rarely start the car with the key. As soon as I am within range I crank it up. Giving the engine an extra 25-45 seconds to run and circulate the oil before driving off.

That's exactly what it was, one extra from some other late GM, no idea what from, obviously not an HHR. It has a trunk/hatch release button that is unused, but no harm done, it's just there, but everything else works fine.

I've found that my remote start won't work if it's below zero and I have the defroster on. It starts and dies three times. I don't know if it's too much load before the engine is warm enough or what. Same in the summer with the AC on, if the vehicle is sitting for an hour or two it has to crank for an extended period to start. I just have to remember to turn the AC or defroster off when I park it.
