How many ways can it be phrased? "nobody knows how to do it" "nobody has reported trying" "experiment for yourself" "EVERYTHING known about it is in the how to thread"
If you make it work write and post a how to.
Sounds like a presidential news conference.
Keep it in one thread.

well im sorry but I've only seen *one* single comment about flashing the bcm and achieving remote start option in the DIC and that is what seems like the most probable method based on the research I've been doing. Im just trying to figure it out. Excuse me.

What he is saying is, let’s post all your questions and findings in one thread, that way it’ll be easier to follow and for future readers.

The answer is: Sell current HHR. Use money to buy another HHR that has the remote start already.

X2^^^^ and when you buy the HHR make sure it has the options you want, you can check RPO codes on this site.
and now we’ll wait to see about changing the BCM works, I was informed by my dealership Tech II scanner wizard , she saved my radio two years back , that you can’t add options to the BCM and a replacement BCM has to be reflashed to your HHR’s VIN , which unfortunately isn’t programmed with RS, my 2011 2LT a former Hertz rental car, sadly does not have remote start. She also confirmed that I can’t have a Canadian speedometer programmed to my car, so my top speed like the American version is 120. After I hit 120 klms an hour the needle stops, and I just keep with the flow of traffic, if I’m on the highway I use my Garmin for GPS speed readout.

I had a 2008 rental and did the RS hack, simply jumping the right wire to ground.

Did it after quite a bit of research, and am quite convinced it is NOT possible after 2008.

You could try a TRUSTED car stereo type shop; they do a lot of aftermarket remote starts. The good ones tend to be surprisingly expensive, but some are integrated into security systems and are pretty cool. The risk is the nightmare if they screw things up.

Just left the dealership. Service department guy said you cant add options. Reprogramming of BCM has to be by the vin, which no doubt does *not* have the remote start option in the DIC.

He said you can swap the BCM and ECM which have remote start, and then reprogram your keys for them, but that's also $180. So I'm gonna pass on this venture and wish anyone luck with it.

looks like a junk yard BCM + ECM is going to be the easiest way, short of getting your hands on the firmware/flash file for a BCM I suppose...as well as the tool to install it.

You would need to have the VIN for the donor HHR BCM and ECM and double check that that HHR had RS and if you’re lucky get the key fobs.

I know I mentioned this before but I'm still pissed that when I bought the '08 rental that looked like new, the dealer said RS could not be added, and only after almost ten years of doing without did I learn here how to do it for free.

Wonder why you would need both ECM and BCM. Would also expect to have to deal with the hood switch of course. If I was swapping ECM's I would want not just the same year and motor but the same smog RPO, unless I completely understood the difference.

My 06 has code in glove box (I'm 79) but the RVS still doesn't work..one FOB came with this used car.. something was replaced by a garage day I bought and AC didn't work..I don't know difference electronically between a BCM and an ECM...but if ECM controls ac its beyond my capabilities to understand. But Mrs K says the AC better work...change of life LOL.I concluded " Don't mean nothing" (an old Vietnam vet saying upon hearing something that you weren't going to do anyway.
