Remote start and backup camera

Having recently purchased a 2011 hail damaged HHR as a toad, I have read with interest the posts on this website. I understand from the posts there is no way to enable the remote start through the DIC for a 2011 which I've verified(mine's from Enterprise). But does anyone know if the wiring is in place for the remote start and for the camera? It would seem plausible that for cost reasons all HHR's are wired the same but just not activated but then again we're talking about GM

My only suggestion would be the very first sticky thread in the How To section for the remote start. It's a 9 page thread but some with ex-rentals have done it.

I don't recall anything on the backup cameras but there a lot of inexpensive aftermarket ones available. might be easier.

Good luck and welcome to the site.

No backup camera ever offered on the HHR, so you'll have to look at an aftermarket setup. The sticky that skyeglen mentioned should get you up and remote starting without too much trouble. Welcome to the site, enjoy!

I believe the 2011 is now offering the backup camera. The first literature for the 2008 or 2009 said backup camera, but it never happened. It would have to be ordered with that option, since most dealers aren't even stocking HHRs anymore.

The How To on remote start only works on the 2008s. Nobody has figured a way of doing 2009 and newer.

I know the sticky addressed up thru 2008 and won't cover 2011. When I looked at a 2010 before I bought the 2011 there was an option for a backup camera for about $310.

My key question is: Does anyone know if the wiring for all 2010/2011 is the same regardless of options ordered? If so i'll figure out how to make the remote start and camera work

Check with your dealer and have them run your Vin. Most likely it will not be wired for it if you did not order that one option.
