Removing Bowtie on Liftgate?

I'm thinking about removing the chevy bowtie on the liftgate and replacing it with a billet aluminum one. The original one is starting to show the bubbles. Has anyone removed the original one, is it an easy process and/or complicated? Thanks in advance.

The bowtie is actually two pieces....... The gold overlay and the chrome bezel. The chrome bit attaches to the beauty bar with 3M tape.... use fishing line to cut through that, easy! Getting the gold piece off the bezel is a little harder without breaking it..... Of course if it's being replaced, that's not an issue. What piece does the billet one replace?

If removing the gold bowtie, do the same thing as Greybeard said. Use fishing line to cut the 3M tape on the back side but go very gently or else you will break it(know from pesonal experience, lol).

The gold piece on mine was partly glued with what looked like "hot glue"..... Probably why the fishing line broke it.

I used a piece of "spider wire" 20 lb test fishing line that I had left over from when I put new line on my one fishing pole, lol. That stuff you cant just pull to tight on it and it breaks, you have to use side cuts to cut it,lol.

I did exactly what you are planning to do. Just as stated above, use fishing line to remove the 3m tape. I used 1 minute setting epoxy to put the billet logo on the beauty bar. 2 years later and still on and looking good.

To get it off the bar use a little lighterfluid to lossen up the 3M tape

Just don't smoke or use the heat gun if you use the lighterfluid as it will burn.

A mild solvent like this will release the tape and not hurt the paint.

I've been looking at this one, I guess it will replace the entire piece (gold and chrome piece around it)

A couple have tried that one with less than steller results. Doesn't fit well.
