You said EVERY car you had driven with OD. Not most or some, but EVERY. If I said that, it would be a large group and it sounds like it would be for you too. I have owned alot of cars too that have OD.

This HHR is the ONLY car I have driven that does this. Maybe all HHRs do it, Idon't know. But it just doesn't seem right to me.

What part of "that I have driven with OD" is not clear? That is pretty narrow definition. I did not say "All cars with a transmission". My Mazda does it, several Toyotas I have driven do it. a Nissan did it and both HHRs I have owned did it. It is because there is a clutch in the torque converter involved.
When I was thrashing on a P0172, the Torque app showed my 2011 2.2 going to closed loop very quickly, not much over 100F coolant temp the way I remember it, just couple of minutes, barely out of the parking lot.

Is it obvious that I have not driven every car in the world? Should be. I never indicated that I have driven lots of cars with OD, probably less than 10. I have drive at least 100,000 miles a year for many years, but only a few cars with automatic trans.
I guess a few truck with 5 speeds might qualify as OD, but they didn't have torque converters.

I checked my MAF sensor by reading the live data on my OBDII scanner. It was not as responsive as I thought it should be, so I changed the MAF sensor. I drove it last night after I changed it and it seemed to help and I was hopeful. This morning on my way to work, it is doing it again. Maybe not as severe as before. Maybe its just wishful thinking on my part.

Torque converter seems to be locking/unlocking. Run a scanner and check the transmission and TC functions.

I chased that same thing on my Dodge truck for 5 years ! Grounds, speed sensor, TPS, new alternator replaced . Nothing worked. Mine finally fixed itself 6 months ago. Weird.
