Have a fun & safe trip !! My wife & I were in Colorado, last month ,near the Denver area(Longmont ) for a week. We did & saw alot of stuff on our road trip.
Round trip, we put over 3,000 miles on it & got 29.9 mpg.

I am now in CO. The drive was uneventful excepting for a couple of rain showers. I topped off the tank on the HHR in Amarillo, and calculated 39.1mpg (running 55 mph). The DIC was showing 38.3 mpg. I haven't filled it yet in Denver, but the DIC is showing 40.4 mpg.



The vehicle still has less than 2k miles on it, so I'll be curious as to what it will be capable of netting once the engine has broken in.

I finally got a picture of my vehicle at the TX/NM state line uploaded. I was unable to take one at the Colorado line, as they did not have a pull out in front of the sign

Overall and after the completion of your trip, I think you will find the HHR a good vehicle to travel in.

I've made similar trips in my '06 (I have posts here someplace) and was pleased with the handling, comfort, performance and mileage. have I driven better vehicles....you bet. But not in the economy level (I believe GM gets better every model year).

I'm on a annual vacation trip currently. But I didn't use the HHR. Had Waaaaay to many "things" to bring back home. Have been gone a little better than 6 weeks and traveled 8000 miles.....not even home, yet (oh, still on the same oil and have 41% remaining, according to the OLI).

The trip has been busy. Trips to the hills have not quite worked out as planned, but I still got one good one in, so I still got away for one day anyway.

Friday (8/14) netted a quick trip with family to Colorado Springs for a dinner at a favorite restaurant called Guiseppes Old Depot. The place used to be a train station, and you can sit right by the window to watch passing trains while you eat. Unfortunately the tracks were quiet, so we only got to see one south bound coal train stop right next to the place to wait for a northbound train to pass. As we were leaving, we got lucky and heard the sound of a train horn, so I jogged around the back to grab a video of the northbound train:


Saturday was the planned 4x4 trip to Bill Moore Lake. The weather was great, and my Brother, and Brother-in-law had a blast putting their Cherokees through their paces. I actually used to own the white one, and was happy to see the vehicle proving Jeeps trail cred.

Well everyone, I am now back home. The HHR performed admirably on the trip. We filled it up pretty much to capacity with stuff, to the point where I could not use the rear view mirror. The vehicle STILL managed to log 42.5 mpg on the drive between Aurora and Amarillo! I like this car.

Off topic, but I was in El Paso this summer also.
Did you go to "Chico's Tacos"? I always stop there when I'm in town.

I was also introduced to another local "favorite" - Rosco Burger.

Now I've got two "must stops" when I'm in town...

Uncle, I am not knowing your route, but I live about 50 miles north of Amarillo so if you will be passing through Amarillo "Lets do Lunch".
