ROCK & ROLL & HHRs
My Rock and Roll life began just before Elvis (not in any way my favorite), with Hit Parade, then American Bandstand, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lewis, Beatles and all the Ed Sullivan shows, Alan Freed, Sun Records, From 10cc to Strawberry Alarm Clock, to Grace Slick's Jefferson Airplane and; (but I can't list them all here, it would take hours.
Then Disco came around and I hated it. So did Bob Seger. Turtles, yes, Rascals, Box tops etc., etc.
A few years ago I gave my son over 200 CDs and every one was rock and roll.
No Motown, No Michael Jackson or Prince (or whatever name he goes by now).
No Thrash metal, No Disco, NO RAP, I abhor all rap!
Love all the old black rock and roll singers/songs of the '50s and 60s.
Platters, Jackie Wilson, Pips, Duke of Earl, etc.
Yes to Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Guess Who with Bertie Comings, Animals, Kinks, Moody Blues, Leonard Skynard, on and on and on. Sorry I didn't mention all the other great rock and roll bands.
Just me - now you guys list your favorites.

Beach Boys
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Beatles
Electric Light Orchestra
Al Green
Bobby Darin *
Elvis (both of them)
Cheap Trick
Chicago
John Denver
* In my opinion, Bobby Darin's recording of 'Mack the Knife' is one of the greatest records ever made.
And........ Shouldn't this be in 'The Lounge'?

Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear
And it shows them pearly white
Just a jackknife has old MacHeath, babe
And he keeps it … ah … out of sight.
Ya know when that shark bites, with his teeth, babe
Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves, though, wears old MacHeath, babe
So there’s nevah, nevah a trace of red.
Now on the sidewalk … uuh, huh … whoo … sunny mornin’ … uuh, huh
Lies a body just oozin' life … eeek!
And someone’s sneakin' ‘round the corner
Could that someone be Mack the Knife?
A-there's a tugboat … huh, huh, huh … down by the river don’tcha know
Where a cement bag’s just a'droopin' on down
Oh, that cement is just, it's there for the weight, dear
Five'll get ya ten old Macky’s back in town.
Now, d'ja hear ‘bout Louie Miller? He disappeared, babe
After drawin' out all his hard-earned cash
And now MacHeath spends just like a sailor
Could it be our boy's done somethin' rash?
Now … Jenny Diver … ho, ho … yeah … Sukey Tawdry
Ooh … Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Oh, the line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky’s back in town.
Aah … I said Jenny Diver … whoa … Sukey Tawdry
Look out to Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Yes, that line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky’s back in town …
Look out … old Macky is back.
Doesn't get any better than that.

You got that right, I got into Ray's playing after I heard him as Duke Ellington's sideman on the '73 album "Duke's Big 4".
He was influenced by Duke's original bassist Jimmy Blanton, a true legend also.

There are too many to list rock and roll, country, jazz, big band, motown,. On my XM I listen to mainly 60's. Anmother good song not many are familiar with is Issac Hyyes By the Time I get to Phonix, off the Hot Buttered Soul album, it is about 15 minutes long. Over the years I got to see a lot of shows from Earl Scruggs to Three Dog Night' The Drifters, The Coasters, Black Oak Arkanses, Chuck Berry, Bill Monroe, Oak Ridge Boys, John Denver, Sam the Sham, Kenny Rodgers, Brownsville Station, Charlie Daniels and more. I even got to see a group a lot have never heard of called Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts. They were around about 40 years known for their resque songs. Those were the days my friend , I thought theyed never end .................

What? No Warren Zevon????? What a great, great songwriter.
First time I heard Elvis was when the babysitter ran across the street to get her record player after my parents left. She put on "Don't Be Cruel," and "All Shook Up." Was hooked on R&R. Remember listening my homemade crystal set radio the night Buddy Holly died.
Also love Springsteen and the British guys (Animals; Searchers; Them; Moody Blues).
The Boss on The Animals:
But the '60s band that made the biggest impression on him was Eric Burdon and The Animals, whose gritty rebelliousness spoke to him deeply. To make his point, Springsteen strummed a few verses from "We Gotta Get Out of This Place," with its chorus, "We gotta get out of this place/,'cause girl, there's a better life/for me and you ..."
"That's every song I've ever written," he said. "That's all of them. I'm not kidding."
