Hmm, I sell a large line of airsoft guns at my store......... The shotgun and AK-47 are popular with the Navy guys. Some of them spray a lot of pellets. I hate sweeping them up in the store, they get under everything
Nah, I just couldn't fire at the kitties.
I do scare every living thing ( including humans ) within earshot sometimes. I hear the raccoons in the trash, so I take an empty five gallon waterjug, hurl it high in the air and in makes a great noise when it hits. Think of it as a sonic boom because this is usually around 3AM ! My wife sleeps through it, so I still do it
I have seen neighbors light come on though,...shhhh.....

Just my 2 cents.....I used to put chili powder in my flower beds to keep cats out. I used a couple of cans once and it worked for about a year. I used to hate cats now I have one, just killed all the flowers

Funny you mentioned your problem with cats. Just this morning I was thinking about setting this up again for ground squirrels....
I live in an unincorporated area, as such, people allow all their pets to roam (still a violation of county law). A neighbors medium sized dog was always lifting his leg on the spoke wheels of my wifes car. After chasing it away a number of times, and asking the neighbor to contain their dog, with no response, I made the following idem...
I parked her car on "chicken" wire screening, allowing about 2 feet overlap all the way around the car and connected an old model train transformer to the wire and turned the "juice" about half way. The next day when the male dog lifted its leg and squirted, all you could hear was yelping as it ran down the street.
According to Pavlov, most animals learn conditioned response after about 3 times. This dog learned in 2.
Have not had a problem since.

Good one Snoop!
My grand father used to do that to Italian immigrants in Boston around 1905 . The story has been handed down. He worked in auto repair at a Pope Hartford plant and an early Dodge plant among others. Anyway he rigged up a similar thing to a set of urinals
Man, the stuff you could do back then
Here's a pic of his Ford repair shop in the early thirties:
