Roof rack rails

Of course, why would you think you couldn`t purchase them and have them installed?
But... if you intend to use them to carry stuff, be prepared to shell out about $200.00 more for the bars that go across and actually carry the load.

Yes, for whay I consider a substantial fee. Seems that GM has removed items from their vehicles and now offer them as "optional accessories" and get to charge large sums of money for them.

Question to those of you that have the Chevy accessory cross bars for the roof rails, What are the dimensions of the bars? How thick are they? I want to purchase a set and also get a Thule ski/snowboard holder and I want to make sure that the Thule pieces will attach to the Chevy bars.
If the pieces don't work together I'll have to get a set of Thule bars instead.

I ordered my 07 with the roof rail and purchased the Thule crossbars. We did our first trip to Florida last week carrying two 44 pound kayaks and everything worked out very well. The load was secured down to the Thule bars with four straps and was very secure.

mccber, can you post of picture? I've put one on top using foam blocks and securing it to the roof rails. Here's a picture. If a Thule rack would carry two, I'd buy one. How did carrying them on top of the HHR affect mileage and handling? I definitely knew when I had two on top of my minivan and kept my speeds a little lower than normal.
