Unhappy Roof Racks

My 07 did not come with roof racks. Does anyone know any aftermarket roof racks that work on a HHR? I went to the dealer to see what it would cost to have some put on ...!!!! They wanted both arms and a leg ($700+) I do custom woodworking and would like to carry the lumber on top, due to the fact that a 10' board will not fit inside my HHR Panel.

Thanks Larry

This is a topic that has covered a million times on this forum. You'll find a ton of threads on the subject if you type roof rack in the search box.

Check the wrecking yards. You'll be able to get all of the hardware and take the measurements needed to transfer the rails to your roof. Plus, it will be MUCH cheaper.

Welcome to the site. Like the captain said try the search feature. Should come across one for gmparts.direct and also Thule. Yes the Dealer will rip you off on them. Important factor is the factory rack any, have a load max of 100 #. That is a reason I will hate to get rid of my pickup truck, never had a hauling issue with it, but 14mpg and $3 a gal is murder. I was thinking of doing a custom rear gate out of wood (I made alot of my own furniture, and build half my house) that would open like the old station wagons in order to haul longer stuff. Make it so the unit could easily come off and be replaced with the stock gate.

Good advise....

But maximum capacity of the roof rack is 150#......at least on the 2006. Maybe it has changed.

You can put a 10 foot board in the HHR if you fold the front passenger seat down!
