Why not just cut out the leaking portion and just replace the line I'm that section? That's what I did on mine no issues. Also assuming that it's leaking right next to the LR wheel?

You can just replace that crusty rusty piece, but mine was also rusted up just under the drivers foot well.

John your welcome! Good to spread the word :) Someone recommended that link to me and suggested I send them my info. I am sure GM will do nothing about it but at least people have info on it if needed !

Is there any reason to think anything was corrected in later years, or can I look forward to this on my 2011 also?

I replaced them on my 2011 built in May, the last month of production, they never changed the lines .

My father in laws Ford Taurus has the brake lines under a plastic cover very similar to the HHR's fuel lines.

He pulled into my driveway last year, hit his brake pedal and it went to the floor. Luckily nothing was in his way.

I crawled under it and pulled the plastic shield apart where the fluid was leaking from. One rusty line ruptured and the other line very rusty. The rest of the brake lines looked new!
