RWD HHR in the works

I'm getting all the pieces to build a smog legal (well, almost smog legal) LS1 powered HHR Panel. '01 Camaro Z28 drive train. I'll post pics soon. This will be registered in California so I have to go thru all the hoops. I'm trying to build it as if it came from the factory
like this.....the way Chevy should have done it. Nothing too radical, a daily driver. Bone stock 310 hp LS1 with all emissions and cats.
Biggest problem will be the computers. The rest should be just a big job. Hope to do it in 12 months, money and time alloting.
wish me luck
Cliff

I love the idea. I have thought about it for a future mod.

Just need to make sure the LS1 becomes an 2010+ L99 to meet with the Drivetrain must be of the same year or newer than the vehicle it is installed in. I ran into that while I lived in California.

This is why I said "almost smog legal" I know you can't legally put an older engine in a newer "smog" car. It must be the year of the car or newer. I have a few options. 1. try to get a smog official "referee" to OK the install (slim chance) 2. Get a $500 smog test (maybe) 3. If that wont work I'll register it in Arizona. In any case, I have my next registration due in May 2013 that will require a smog certificate. This will be with the stock 4 banger. That gives me 2 years before I need to worry about smog.

Sell the Camaro pieces (if you already have them) to someone for placement in an older GM or hot rod, and buy a '10 or '11 LS drivetrain, problem solved!

Good luck with the transformation, we'll be watching...
