Sale on HHR Towing Hitches
I contacted Red Apple Mail LLC (redvoltmail@yahoo.com) about a HHR trailer hitch I heard they sold from U-HAUL. The lady sold me a new U-Haul hitch, # 224758, made by Curt Industries for $130, including shipping. Never spoke directly with her, all done by email.
I'm not sure how many they have, or if they even have any more at this price, but they had Curt in Wisconsin (the manufacturer) drop-ship it to my house in California on 07/07 and I got it 07/09, pretty fast. They take PayPal, if any one cares. I have no affiliation with these folks, other than wanting a hitch, and my local U-Haul wanted $212 + installation. I just thought I'd share with my new family what I consider to be a fantastic price.

I am an RV'er when not on this site and can tell you that you probably will have a hard time finding any receiver hitch for an HHR for less than $150, even from Curt mfg. Reese, Draw Tite and Hidden Hitch are even more.
$130 with shipping included is indeed a bargain.

I paid less that $150 for my hidden hitch with drawbar shipped. But that was back in 2006 also. Can't remember exactly which site I got it from.

the prices on hitches have went up a lot over the years. I looked through a lot of old posts here and people would say a price and then when i went to the link the price would be $10/20/30/40 higher then what they paid for it. Sometimes just months before. A lot of companies have upped their prices to make ends meet.

Update to my hitch. I installed it today, took about 35 minutes for the hitch, and about 10 minutes for the Curt wiring harness. The whole process was pretty much straight forward, but it does require two people to make it fast and easy.
The hitch weighs about 50lbs., but it is off-set and awkward. One person to hold, the other to start the bolts.
Here is the finished product. No cutting of the valance on a non-SS model. A nice video of the installation can be found on YouTube (search for installing HHR hitch) for a 2007, but it was accurate for my 2009 installation.

hate how you can see it from behind like that... Working on a plan to conceal mine a little bit. I much prefer the lock of it on the SS, even if you have to cut the notch in it. I think the hitch generally blends with white and other colors more since it looks like part of the underside of the car. Where as with the black hhr, it sticks out a bit more since everything is black.
Would help to get that big uhaul sticker of of it.
