should this be happening? Confused..

I took my car in to Carmax in Feb (this year) for front end clunking, they said it was nothing, couldnt find any problems, well I took it in a week ago for the same thing and they are replacing the struts, bushings, sway bar end links....I am only responsible for my extended warranty deductible so its ok but when I took it in Feb. it was still under the 30 day Carmax warranty so it would have cost me ZERO dollars.....it sounds odd that in two months my front end suspension went down the toilet, and its going to take them 3-4 days to repair once they recieve the partts!!!! Does this sound right to anyone else here????

Sounds fishy to me, parts fail over time but not in 2 1/2 months from "fine, no problems" to "you need everything, totally wasted!" especially if you were having problems when you first took it in.

Something ain't right, take it somewhere else for another opinion and then let us know what they find. I think you're being set up for a fast one by CarMax, so get another opinion A.S.A.P. OK.

Reminds me of when a friend took his car to Midas to check his brakes, they said "it's a disaster, everything need to be replaced to the tune of $1,000" Then he pulled out his receipt for the "Lifetime" brake job they had done 20K before. Suddenly he only needed new pads. End game was he held them to the estimate, and got it.

I would present them with the original complaint work order and then have a breakdown in front of other customers.

Sounds as another classic case of rip off.

My Mom took her Buick in for tires and they told her the springs on here car might not make it home.

She asked if their condition may be due to the truck load of Moog springs she just sat and saw them unload?

Well here spring were not so bad then and they lasted another 8 years till she sold the car.

Lets see, you took it in when it was 100% on their dime and there is no problem.

You take it in shortly after when you have to cover part of it, and there are problems.

Sounds about right for a used car lot.....

BTW, CarMax buys a lot of cars at auction.

I suspect the car does need some or all of the parts they are suggesting... they are the common parts that can cause clunking noises. Especially the end links and bushings. I would be upset though that they claimed it was OK the first time. That was probably bullsh*t to try to avoid paying for the needed repairs.

Have them look at the steering column while they are looking it will probably be next. My dealer looked at mine at 35,500 and said they cant feel it convenient when they thought my warranty was over at 36,000. The good news is they forgot they re-certified it so I'm sure it will get worse before 48000 I plan on helping the technician with his near sightedness. While you only have to pay the deductible might as well have it all new.
