I just test drove a 2006 HHR LT today with 121,000 miles & absolutely loved it. Drives smooth, great acceleration, etc. Heard some squeaking from the rear (maybe shocks or bushings) that is common with older vehicles...otherwise it is smooth. CarFax is CLEAN but I wanted to see if anyone had any insight into this model. I saw where it has had power steering problems & ignition switch recall. The power steering problems looked like they happened on cars with less mileage so I assume it would have already happened with this car? Any insights would be helpful...planning to go back in the morning to buy it.

 

Welcome to the site, a visit to your local GM dealership can confirm any recall for the ignition switch has been done or the extended warranty for the power steering motor has been done , which is for the life of the HHR

I bought my 2006 HHR off of the showroom floor. I love it. It did have a recall on the ignition switch but that's miner. Other than the ignition switch, it's been a great vehicle. I don't think you could go wrong.

In my opinion the 2006 which is the first year out have a lot of trouble . 2007 they did do a lot stuff to correct the problems .. Like I said that's my opinion

 

We bought our 2006 in November 2005 and sold it about 7 1/2 years later. Other than the shifter replacement and the butyl patch repair (both under warranty) we only replaced tires the front hubs and brake pads in the time we owned it.

 

I bought my 06 HHR LT off the lot. I drove it for 8 1/2 years and 131,000 mile. I had no issues with the car. I had the ignition recall done (I never had any issues with it). I replaced the suspension components at some point in time, brakes at 95K miles and a couple of sensors. The car ran great.



But after 8 1/2 years it was time for a change. It was a daily driver for me. Whoever got it has a nice running car

 

Other than the '06 model year being a "standalone" as far as certain components, both major and minor, mine is sneaking steadily up on 400,000 miles with very few issues other than things just plain wearing out from age and mileage.

But the engine is as sweet as a nut, the transmission is perfect, every bit of electronic gadgetry works flawlessly, and it still looks good.

It has just been demoted to Daily Driver status because two of its garage mates are pampered Trucklets, and its third garage mate is slowly(oh so slowly), being hot rodded.

Yes I've got four HHR's and I'm always looking for number five.
