Running boards are far better imho. Plus they are functional. I use mine a lot when detailing.

I don't have any idea what side skirts even are. Maybe you are referring to fender skirts? Regardless, running boards are both functional (which I really like) and look good.

If I would have had the choice when buying my SS, I'd have opted for the running boards. I like the functionality of them vs. the racy look of the skirts. It all just depends on what you value more. They both look good on the HHR.

My pantleg always wiped the dust off my SS flares.
It always had an even coat of dust on the car with the obvious clean spot under the driver's door.
It looked like **** to me and was almost unavoidable.

It doesn't happen with the RBs.
And they're functional & durable.
All other issues aside I think they just plain look better.
(especially on a black SS )
