I have driven HHRS's With boards, With Skirts and without either.

The Skits look good but they are a pain to get in ans out of without hitting them with a shoe or pants.

The Running boards look fine but an yes you can stand on them but let face it they are more cosmetic than anything. They are of little use getting in or out. The only thing they are good for is if you can not reach the roof for cleaning if you are not tall enough.

With out is the easiest to get in and out of and look fine but then you have the stone chips.

Of the three I think the boards are the best split between ease of living with and stone protection.

There are times I hate getting in and out of the SS in the winter. If you do not have long legs they would be even a greater pain.

 

Either. I've had both. I never used the running boards to step on and I've never had a problem scuffing the skirts with my feet. Both protect your sides from debris.

 

My only regret was not opting for running boards when I bought my 09. Not for looks but for protection from kicking up dirt and debris on sides. I thought splashguards would prevent this but I was wrong. Now I'm shopping for boards..

 

I've got an SS with side skirts and I'd rather have the running boards. Too bad you didn't get a choice.

Most kids try to step on the skirts getting in and out which drives me crazy!

 

I have mud flaps, which help, but I really think the running boards are better protection. Since my HHR is pretty much a base LT, it had no running boards, and I added the flaps.

 

If I could trade someone my side skirts for their running boards, I'd do it! I have a 2 year old that would like to have something to step on. (Midnight Blue Metallic)

Unless of course you live in a place like Utah! They're great for rain, but the snow piles up on them and sometimes freezes.
