Slow shifting transmission

When the temperature outside is in the 50's or lower my 2009 HHR is slow shifting into 4th (Overdrive). I have to drive it for 5 minutes or so to warm it up before it will kick in. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or is it a problem? Maybe they are designed to work that way. My main concern is, does my HHR need servicing?

I am thinking that it has to be up to temp before it will go into lock up. I have a 06 with 68K and when I start off with eng. cold it will take up to 3-5 miles before it shifts and it has done this from the start.

What you are noticing is normal. It is to help the trans warm up quicker or something to that effect. Most newer cars do the same thing. It will take a few minutes before it will shift into top gear.
