Teflonworm

Whelp...its been freezing recently and we had a couple little flurries but counties around here just love to dump salt everywhere. I figured, it'd be a great time to clean my windshield. So I press the snazzy button, wipers start flailing, but no liquid. I could hear the pump, but no liquid.

I bought the car in Late June, Early July of last year, perhaps I managed to finally run out of fluid since I rarely use it. I typically wipe the front and rear window down with window cleaner prior to driving.

I swing by the local auto store and pick up some washer fluid and go back to my parents house where I was visiting. Pop the hood, open the lid, and I get a wicked whiff of something. Thought maybe the pump was burning or bad. But this...this was not burning bad. This wasnt even like ran over a skunk bad...It was much more sinister.


This was burn your nostrils, water your eyes, and churn your stomach bad.


I grab my washer fluid and start pouring it into the resevoir and what happens next....... (dont scroll if ya got a weak stomach)




This floats up....












Ok. Gross. I go get my dad to come out. He quickly figures out its animal fur (no crap) and the stench is that of dead animal. But where oh where and what could it be?


He grabs the garden hose and syphons out the fluid (which bad mistake cause he got a mouthful of fur/fluid) and we start draining.....then all of a sudden....it stops....


We both lean in, get a real good whiff again of the nasty and see the clog. Something is caught at the end of the hose....hmm....


Guess what was blocking my washer fluid???









Yup. This was the first time I opened that resevoir since I bought the car and I am not a happy person. It took almost 30 minutes to wash out the fluid and we replaced it. It still smells horrid in there and the engine compartment. Also a good bonus, the washer fluid still isnt coming out. Probably got assorted mouse parts in the lines.

I am calling Chevy and my dealership tomorrow and they better be nice and helpful


Suggestions???

YIKES!! I'd say that is worth a trip to the dealer with pics in hand. Can't imagine how it could get in there.

My washer fluid works fine, so clogs, no mice....
By far, I think this is the best HHR 'what is it?' story!

I've heard of mice and rats getting into the engine compartment to stay warm in the winter, but not in the washer fluid.

OMG...that's awful...wonder if it was put in there at the factory? Can't think of any other way it got in there.

I had a buddy who had a rats nest in car and was causing problems...

how did it get inside the fluid reservoir?

No idea on how it got in there. After we cleaned up the area a bit and handled the business my father and I took the car onto some ramps and checked for chew holes or anything we could to see how in gods name it got there and whelp...nothing.


The creepeist thing is because I rarely use washer fluid. I prefer to just clean the whole windshield and rear window prior to driving.
