So my dad buys an HHR SS tonight

Crazy day. So my mom calls me this afternoon (mom and dad divorced) and tells me that she is at the dealership looking at new and used cars. Long story short, but she dropped her car off there last week and it turns out the transmission is shot out. She decides to take their offer on trading it in and buys a 2008 Malibu SS.

I hang up the phone with her and 10 seconds later (no kidding) my dad calls and he just bought a black 2009 HHR SS half panel. It was on ebay if anybody saw it. He went to the dealer (opposite side of town) and made an offer and drove it home. I guess he must have liked mine a lot! This is his first new car since the mid 70's

Maybe I will post some pics of dads HHR this weekend when I see it.

My dad bought a silver SS about 1 month after i got mine, I think were still the only father and son HHR SS owners on the site. But mines got about triple the miles now.

That is probably how it will work out for us. My dad lives half the year in Alaska so his will stay in the garage most of the time until he comes down. Well, till I go and check on it from time to time anyway!

My dad hates my HHR...then again, he owned a 1978 VW van and a 1978 Datsun(yes, for all you youngsters, it used to be called DATSUN in the US) 280 Z 2+2
now he owns a 2004 BMW 530i sport....he buys new, and never trades in...he drives cars until they wont run any longer.

he said my HHR is just "not his style"

to each their own. It IS my style...just not my comfort level.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I thought it was a pretty funny story seeing how they don't even talk to each other that much. I took some pics before I went up to Nashville the other day (my HHR is broke at the dealer up there now). What do you all think? Mine is the IBM and dad's is the black one.

You took your HHR SS all the way to Nashville to a dealer? Or were you in the area and it broke down, sorry I get confused easily? Did you come up through Bama, if so should said something I live right off I-65, could've met up and had a bite to eat.

Was it a trade in or new 09 half panel, because at the time I looked for one (aug. 09) in about a 300 mile radius no half panels were around except in N.C. Otherwise that half panel would've been gone by me (if it had all the options I wanted)

After mine is paid off I'm thinking of having the back sheet metal welded in to make it a half panel or doing the half panel mod that one of our members so kindly posted.

My sled broke down on me while I was up there visiting friends for a couple days. The steering column got bummed up and I could hardly turn the wheel back and forth to get it to the dealer. I have still got the rental and hope to go pick her back up on Tuesday. I use I75 and I24 but if I am ever going to be on I65, I will give you a shout. Do the same if you are in the ATL area.

Dad's half panel was a trade in at a Dodge dealership in south Atlanta. He saw it on eBay last week and decided to go check it out. It is a 2009 with about 1200 miles on it I think.

I thought about both of those options as well and think that members HHR with the mod is real slick.
