So, now I have heard "the noise"

When driving slowly, no brakes, straight away on this light snow in my driveway. I have heard the noise that many noobs have complained about, it almost sounds like the ABS activating. But no brakes, goes away when I get on clear pavement.

I know it's not a problem, nothing is wrong. I just wonder what the heck it is?

Hmm. Does the ESC activate at that slow of a speed? Maybe because it "senses" a stability issue because of the snow and bad traction.
Just taking a wild guess here.

No, not exactly the same either. Something between a crunching and a brake drum. Clearly coming from the suspension system not the brakes.

I am assuming that it is the sound people complain about in the springs, but it only occurs on snow even when coasting down the driveway.

Hey donbrew,

If this is something you think you should get checked out I would be happy to offer support throughout the process. I can be reached via PM.

Sincerely,

Swaybar end links or steering column are most likely.

As I said : I know that it is not a problem, I am not WORRIED about it, just curious.

Why would links or steering column make a noise only on a quarter inch snow cover and then not on the clear pavement?

It does sort of sound like when you hold old fashioned power steering to the lock momentarily, but going straight.

Are you sure it just isn't the sound of the snow crunching?
I know folks in the South aren't used to driving on it.

I am not that far south. At first that's what I thought, but I can "feel" it and the snow in question was very light fluffy "sweepable" stuff this time the first time it was icy.

Not that far south? Heck donbrew. Compared to me, you're up north. In fact, you're almost a yankee. ( no offense intended)
