So under what conditions are the driving lights supposed to activate?
When I first got my LT I saw the fog lights on a few times. But for a while now I haven't seen them on at all.
I know they are controlled by the ECU but when are they supposed to come on? Is there anyway I can force them on? I normally just use the auto-light function.
What gives?

The best way to turn on the FOG LIGHTS is to use the switch that is dedicated to them.
They will work ONLY on low beam. Once you use the high beams the fogs turn off and need to be turned on again, MANUALLY......again only on low beam.

If you were to read the manual: Center of the dash above the radio below the air ventsand to the right of the air bag indicator is a button for turning on the fog lights. Note this feature resets itself when the ignition if turned off. If you want it on press the button.

Are you sure? Another weird thing, if you turn on the fog lights via the switch when on high beam they don’t come on (activate), they have to be turned on when on low beam and then will go out when switched to high beam and back on when turned to low beam. Must be some kind of circuit that has to be hot (on) to be activated. Dislike the auto on feature and I am always looking to try and defeat it (unsuccessfully) and must be a frustrated 18 wheeler because I like to power park running with the park lamps on and have discovered that with the headlights off and the trans in park with the fogs only on the park lights will light. Simple things for simple minds right?

Yep center dash button to activate and only on low beams or side marker lights only. However, the fogs should reactivate automatically when you return to low beams from high......at least mine does.

Yup, mine too. All manufacturer fogs that I know of turn off with the high beam so you don't totally blind an oncoming vehicle and the highs overpower the fogs anyways. People usually find a way to get around it at some point. The thing I find odd about the HHR is that when you manually disable your headlights with the fogs on your headlights go out but your fogs stay on. I thought all manufacturer fog set ups automatically disabled the fogs with your headlights so you can't drive around with just your fogs on.

When you turn the fogs on it automatically turns on the lower setting of the amber lights if the lights are set to manual, and dims the ambers to the lower setting if on auto (at least for the 06s). Also depending on the lighting conditions the tail lamps will come on also including the side marker lights. The same goes for the dash lighting as well.
