But if the previous owner was a rental place I doubt they swapped them just to be different. If I were to guess I would have to say the rear hatch has been repaired and the body guy stuck them on backwards. I doubt the rental place reported it. They probably just fixed it so that's why it doesn't show on the carfax. I had something similar happen on my Mustang. I had the front fenders repaired and when I picked the car up the running mustangs on the side were running with the wind instead of against it. I immediately noticed it being the Mustang lover I am but the body guy didn't know any better because they weren't labeled left and right. They had to order me a new set and put them on the right way.

It appears the rear of this veh. has been repaired, and the person putting the emblems on didn`t know which side the pieces belonged on. No need to besmirch an entire race of people.
The guy who put them on was probably an American.
Yes, in jest. And they are manufactured in Mexico. Would have said the same thing if the were built in Ireland (home of my mother) using Irish laborers. Sometimes this place just gets sooooo tense.

Apprently it does happen, seems to be a quality control issue

It just goes to show you to always check out a vehicle prior to purchasing. New or used.

I would have to belive that they have some sort of quality control at the assembly plant to prevent that sort of thing ... but anything is possible.

You would think. I've had vehicles arrive with gas caps on vehicles that are diesel. NOw to you or me (hopfully) you would know the differance. But just imagine how many would put gas in it. It will happen. QC is lacking everywhere. Think about the fuse issue.

I wasn`t getting tense, just trying to keep the prospective, There`s no way to know what happened, but that`s not a reason to start bashing...
If that car was on a used car lot, all alone, you would have nothing/no way of knowing if the emblems were on the correct side. We know because we see the rear end more often.
Someone at a body shop could care less about something like that.
It was more of an oddity than a statement of quality assurance.

Best idea: like you said, RUN from that one. Wonder if the buyer who wound up winning at $12.8K knows it was a rental. Betcha he doesn't.

And since it is a private auction, no one can email the poor guy and tell him. Wonder if the seller made it private so no one could... hmmm
I agree with you - I was TRYING to be diplomatic just in case the new owner turns up here
