Speedo off

Since adding a GPS in my car I have noticed that the speedo is off by around 3mph. Is this something the dealer can fix with some programing, or should I just live with it?

Dude, don't you own a key chain?

Seriously, did you try setting cruise on a level road, and reset the average speed in the DIC and see if that is off from the mechanical speedometer too? Maybe the needle can be adjusted.

Holy crap! Maybe it's because you're listening to Rush Limpballs on WKBZ.

Oh crap... Now I'm going to have to stop leaving my key in the ignition... I usually just leave in the key and use the remote.

I can't believe you recognized what I was listening too on the radio, but you are correct, getting Rush's take on the debates... How did you know?

I never thought of resetting the avg speed on the DIC, I assumed that they would agree with each other. I'll try that and see if it is just the needle?

Took me about 30 seconds to figure out the radio with the am frequency your location the clock and google.

I reset my speed thing frequently if I'm exceeding the speed limit (which I am) because I have to duck down to see the needle behind the wheel.

Let us know, because I trust the GPS the most.

Even though there is not a federal regulation pertaining to odometer/speedometer accuracy, some states do have specific laws. Generally, a tolerance of plus or minus 4% is allowed.

Back to my original question, is this something the dealer can fix with programming?
The only other issue I have is that mine is about 8% high. That means my warranty will expire 8% early... That is if it's not just the needle being off.

What speed is it off 2-3 mph?

Have you check your odometer for accuracy?

If at 60mph it is off 2-3 mph then the dealer probably will not do anything because you are within the 4% guideline specified by GM. Then again you could always ask them order another cluster and see if it is more accurate.

Jeff,I always thought he was Rush Dimbulb.
One thing I noticed with my HHR was that at about 2800 miles the R.P.M.s for a given road speed got a little lower. At first,70 m.p.h. was 3000 r.p.m. and now it's about 2800 r.p.m.Seventy two m.p.h. is now 3000 r.p.m.That seems to be the noticeable effect of the engine loosening up a little bit.

Just to cover all bases, how do you know the GPS isn't off?
