SS Hitch Mod

Well I installed my hitch on my SS. I had a welder friend of mine modify it (see pics). There isn't a hitch made for the SS and the ones for the LS/LT push up on the lower fascia. Over time the vibration from the car will wear into the paint. I only carry a bicycle rack so nothing heavy duty. I had a custom receiver made to mount a single bike tray on. I can also use one of the 1 1/4" to 2" adapters and use my 2 bike rack that folds up.

Note the location of the hitch. I had the old one cut off, you can still see a portion of where the original pin went. Then the new 1 1/4" square stock was welded directly to the bottom of the old one. I had it moved toward the front of the car to hide it even more. It works great!

looks good i can't even see it but then again the pictures are kinda small. looks better than the "hidden hitch" you can get anywhere else.

Hi luckybiggs, This looks like exactly what I'm looking for. Your car looks suspiciously similar to mine! I found a schwinn 4 bike rack that will fit a 1-1/4 or 2" receiver. If you can post a couple more pics and maybe what parts you used. I'm sure I could find a welder if needed. Just started this investigation yesterday, so I'm green on it.

Luckybiggs,

You modification is exactly what I am looking for. Can you share some of the specifics of how you changed the hitch? Would it also be possible for you to email me some of your pics? The pics here are a bit small.

Thank you.

Awful close to the ground. Plus pretty low for any trailer hitch. All I know mine is not that low and I hit curbs and drag it on steep inclines all the time.
