This is exactly what I am doing :-)

I started the year off with a 2LT which I bought with some "encouragement" from the "GM Card Earnings "Fillup" promotion that was going on in January.
An SS at the time was never an option, since it was January 31rst and I had to choose one off of the lot that day to take advantage of the offer.

I have no regrets - I love the 2LT, but now I'm planning on trading in our '03 Impala on a Victory Red SS - same color as our 2LT.

I just wish that my dealer wasn't in a 25 mph zone, that made my SS test drive pretty sedate ;-)

I don't get that way often now.
LOL, I modified the truth a little. Take dead mans in the inside lane (east) and then into the rout 2 spur towards lakewood (west). Check out what speed is required to UNDERSTEER....lol. Check out what speed youll reach before the cuyahoga bridge holding max boost in that getly rising 1 mile straightaway...... Remember I was chasing a motorcycle.

The best of all worlds!! But in my house my wife & I would have daily "discussions" re: who gets the SS today??

Update: so far the SS is leading as the suggested model... Great Commentary from all!

I started by purchasing an LT1 for my wife and liked it so much I bought an LT2 for myself and all was well..... Until I drove an SS!

Within a week of driving the SS I sold my LT2 and purchased the SS.

I too liked the looks of the LS/LT grill and running boards, but the grill on the SS has really grown on me, although I wish I had the real running boards.

I have been a gear head most of my life and the SS is such a great place to start. I looked at building the 2.4 in the LT2 and I couldn't have got even close to the HP/torque of the SS without MAJOR modifications.

It all depends on what's important to you....

Take a look at the "What would you like to see in the HHR" thread... A large number of the things "wanted" are standard issue with the SS. I agree, the HHR is a Retro-look... The HHR-SS is a Retro-Rod Look.

Problem: I really like the "retro" look of the LT2's grill, running boards, & overall appearance, etc..--that's what drew me to the HHR in the 1st place...

But I also think the SS gives you a lot more for just a little more $$ & may have greater future value (but I plan on keeping it a long time)..

For me it's a really tough call--both are within my budget...

So I thought I'd "ask the audience" for some help (using my 1st lifeline!)

Just curious what everyone thinks.. Thanks!!
wow
i have been going through this same debate with myself..
i have not driven a ss but have driven ls lt lt2 by far my favorite was the lt2..
but the strong sticking point for me was side air bags is a must!
i sat in a ss and it did not have the side air bags i wanted to drive it but im not quite ready..
i can say one thing for sure before purchasing
take each vehicle for several hours if not home over night
do this several times its a major purchase....

good luck
im still torn..
my vehicles im looking at
all with side airbags
lt2 due to ride!
ls only 09 and if i can negociate either good price for lt2 shocks struts the ride difference for me is enough to stop the deal.
ss only with side airbags

other vehicles im interested in is
jeep patriot... but i hate the cvt transmission if it had a regular automatic in it, one would be sitting in my garage!

x3 bmw probably a 06 or 05 cpo certified pre owned they have 100000 mile warranty and with a 3.0l motor and a 6speed is fun to drive doesnt get the 30mpg hhr SS but is all wheel drive .x drive.. the x3 gets but a serious nod for me against a hhrss more room wider... better field of vision..
good luck
hope i didnt muddy the water to much

I'm driving the SS this weekend.. Looked @ them yesterday.. I think the SS is going to be the one.. (side airbags included!)... I was "sold" on the 2LT until I sat in the SS--besides, I will, hopfully, be on the inside of the HHR a lot more than the outside!! --hide the keys from my Wife.... Thx for the input...

I sat in the SS first. I've never been in an LT or LS.
