Stone shield on the rear door guarding the rear wheelwell
I have seen HHR's with and without the plastic stone shield on the front of the rear wheelwells. It is ugly. I just ordered a 2007 HHR and I hope it doesn't have these guards. They protect the rear wheelwell if you don't have running boards, but if you have running boards, they are unnecessary. Running boards are a dealer installed option, so I am wondering if the factory uses this as criteria for installing those stone shields.
Any information on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

It depends on how the HHR is ordered. You bought your running boards and had them installed after the sale Deb. Mine was order with running boards from the factory so the chip guards never came on my HHR.

I ordered Sub-Sub without running boards and decided I wanted them later. It was too late to modify my order so I got them as a dealer installed option. Without discussion the dealer left the rear fender chip guards in place....and so did I. Actually I don't think they distract at all from it's looks, I've also installed the factory mud flaps and I think the combination of all three are doing a great job. But with that said, I think the factory mud flaps are too short for a stock height HHR and crap can get by them. If mine was left at stock height I think I would install longer after market mud flapd as cj and several others have done to tailor the ground clearence to your liking. But since mine is lowered the factory mud flaps provide great protection.

I did not order mine. When we found it the dealer had only had it for about 2 days. Still in the back lot. Running boards were not yet installed and it did not have the little shield. I agree it is how it get ordered with or without the boards then it comes with or without the shield
