Strange happening..!

As I was coming home from work tonight I stopped at a red light, while I was sitting there with my foot on the brake, car in gear, doors locked...my right rear passenger door "poped" open..!! (07 panel)
Has any other panel owner ever had this happen..??
I have tried to open the back doors using the buttons when they are locked and they will not open so imagine my surprise when this happened.
I would hate to have a repeat going down the interstate..!!

The only thing I can think of is that when that door was last closed it didn't close completely but did close enough to not set a warning off.

Do you ever have problems opening it with the remote? Does it take more than one click of the FOB for it to pop open?

Thanks for the reply,
The door hadnt been used for a couple of days and I had driven about 50 miles or so since it was last used.
The panel is an 07 so sadly I don't have door openers on my key fob, I have tried to find some info on upgrading to the 08 fob with the buttons but havent had any luck.
I've never had any problems opening the doors with the dash buttons and so far it hasn't happened again.
I thought it might be a problem with the BCM, I heard the same clicking sound that I hear when I release the door using the dash button just before the door chime started and I'm also having some problems with turning off my headlights at night.

Thanks

Possibly maybe low probability but still possible.....you were near someone that ALSo has a panel or maybe another car FOB happened to hit the right code as you drove by...

The part that bothers me is that I know the dash buttons are disabled (I assume by the BCM) when the car is running and in gear, I assume that the key fob buttons are the same.
So even if I had somehow pushed a button or someone else's remote was close to me it still should not have opened the door unless there is a malfunction in the BCM..????

but thanks anyway for the response....

Hold on tight!

My rear Panel doors will not close all the way unless I give it a good push. It's like air pressure against it.
My front doors close too easy. You barely push the door & it slams shut with a loud bang. I'm always telling people "dont slam the door!".
In my case, it is probably due to poor fit between body panels. I suspect my HHR was hit it the front at some point in it's life. The replacement parts are not lined up perfectly. My door & hood gaps are all over the place!

Your door probably just did not get it shut all the way. Hopefully any rear seat passengers are belted in tight though just in case it happens again

If you are under warranty take it to a dealer. If not I would check the harness under the switches. They run by a metal bracket and you could have a chafed wire.
