As I said I am pretty good at haveing an Idea of what an item will cost to ship I am willing to bet it is not $6 more. Shipping times do not worry me and I do not care how long it takes, I just refuse to be ripped off on shipping. Customs paperwork is also a big bit of bunk. It takes one minute to write out what the item is, even less if you do it on Paypal and ship from your PC with their service. As I said I have bought and shipped enough items to have an idea of what is fair.
I have to agree w/ you. When I ship to canada I only charge $1 more, since it only cost me about 50-60 cents more. I ship via usps and all ebay auctions shipped in US have delivery confirmation # and are 1st class mail. Shipping to canada you can't have a confirmation # (save you like 60cents +/-) and so 1st class w/ no confirmation number to canada is at the most $1 more. (that would be GB to northern westcoast of canada) When I say a $1 more that is then saiding it in US w/ confirmation # so really about $1.50 ish more. I have shipped alot to canada, and use to do alot to Europe. I would say about 30-40% of my auctions in the last couple yrs have been to canada. I believe this has to do w/ not trying to rip off our northern brothers. cuz as stated I use the same materials either way and it takes all of 1 minute or less to fill out the paperwork.

I do agree with you on the excess shipping, My Canada shipping ranges from 1.00 to 2.00 more depending on the item and when I drive to the post office to send it. Rural carriers do not like taking the out of country packages. Not enough sales for a regular UPS stop here. So that is a drive to town also.

Lurked through this thread and immediately ordered the part from eBay. Three day delivery, 2 minute install, zero change in reception. Looks great. Thanks for the tip!
