Stupid Question of the Day re Daytime Lights

Stupid Question of the Day re Daytime Lights
Ok. I have a 2006 2LT HHR. All HHRs have Daytime Running Lights...right?
Mine appears to only have the parking lights on during the day. (My headlights are set on auto) That is illegal in Colorado. I did a search to confirm it:
I'd much prefer the actual headlights be on during the day, are mine broken or is it only supposed to be the parking lights? If that is the way it's supposed to be, I don't care for it at all. Not to mention the fact that it is technically illegal! I don't think a cop would pull me over for it but still.
I wonder if anything can be done about it if it is how the car was manufactured. I guess I could complain to Chevy...
Anyway, is this the way the car was manufactured or are my headlights malfunctioning?

Colorado Statute 42-4-231 prohibits driving with parking lights on except when headlights are lighted at the same time. Parking lights alone are not easily seen from a distance, making it difficult for other drivers to see your vehicle.

Only the parking lights come on with the 06 models. From 07 on the headlights come on. I think that law would only apply to night time driving. I couldn't see GM releasing a vehicle having an illegal feature that is going to get the owner tickets under normal operation.

The use of parking lights are illegal in many state for driving but maybe since GM calls them driving lights when they are on during the day, then it is OK. When it is dark or rainy, then the headlights must be on. All car manufacturers have to make cars that are legal in the states in which they are sold. They maybe called parking lights at night but they are driving lights in the day.

It was built that way and they are considered day-time running lights, not parking lights.
I seem to remember someone here who had an 06 and after some work at the dealer, during which they had to do something to the computer, the headlights acted as the daytime running lights. So maybe, it can be changed. I'm guessing that most dealers will just say no either way.

Violet: This should be your answer..
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) can make it easier for
others to see the front of your vehicle during the
day. DRL can be helpful in many different driving
conditions, but they can be especially helpful in the short
periods after dawn and before sunset. Fully functional
daytime running lamps are required on all vehicles
first sold in Canada.
Your vehicle has a light sensor on top of the instrument
panel. Make sure it is not covered or the headlamps
will come on when you do not need them.
The DRL system will make both front turn signal lamps
turn on when the following conditions are met:
• The ignition is on.
• The exterior lamp control is turned to AUTO.
• The light sensor detects daytime light.
• The shift lever is not in PARK (P).
While the DRL system is on, the taillamps, sidemarker
lamps, and instrument panel lights will not be
illuminated.
The DRL system will be off any time your vehicle is in
PARK (P). The DRL system on U.S. vehicles can
also be turned off by using the off/on switch for
one ignition cycle.
As with any vehicle, you should turn on the regular
headlamp system when you need it.

Well poop
Well, Chevy can call them anything they like but they are parking lights and it IS illegal to drive with them on with no illuminated headlights, period. (In Colorado anyway, I looked the statute up. It's only a $15 ticket but it would still suck.)
Nice. I wouldn't have bought an '06 if I'd known that little gem.
I'm taking it to the dealer on Friday to address a couple other things, I may mention this and at least see what they say.
