I'm the new owner of a used 2011 HHR LT. I went to close the liftgate by putting my hand in the opening at the bottom righthand side and noticed that there wasn't any plastic insert in there. Just sharp metal. Is there a proper name for this missing piece so I can order it? Also got the ticking fan issue when it's on low. Should I have the dealer replace the fan under warranty? Thanks everyone.

 

Welcome to the forum. I'm not sure exactly what piece you are missing but when the Dealer is looking at the fan ask about the plastic piece you are referring to.

 

First welcome to the site. There are some really helpful people around. To answer your question there is an insert that plugs into the opening. Both of ours have it. It probably just snaps into the hole. I have not tried to remove one. Just explain to the parts man he should have a parts breakdown that you can see to point out the part you need.

 

I'm guessing that it is called a finger well of grab handle. It just snaps in very easily. I had to remove mine to remove the tail gate trim panel.

 

"Pull Handle, gray" list at $5.48. Available from GMpartsdirect & etc.
Oh, and the ticking fan is probably a leaf or some other debris. Try pulling the cabin air filter out and check for "stuff" in there. That would be easier than a dealership call, unless you have spare time to burn.

Thanks for the info. I see there are 2 listed on GMpartsdirect website. The gray one is $5.45 but the black one is $21. Anyone know the reason for the price difference?

 

maybe there over stocked with the grey ones

 

GMpartsEast has them the closer in price, I suspect a typo.
