Mine was more of a clank than a clunk.

Took two trips to the dealer before they could reproduce it and fix it.

Ever since suffering through a piston slap riddled 3.1L V6 in a Malibu, I constantly listen for new noises and get it addressed if it is something that's a problem.

Definitely a clank and not a clunk on mine. Its a distinct sound, and the car lurches in sync to it happening.

Fluid hung in the clutch packs. Could this mean the fluid level in the trans might ought to be reduced slightly?

Ok I use the term clunk loosely..I could mean clank too...either way it sounds like GM is saying "tough, it is a noise, deal with it" Of course that is just what I'm reading..whether that is true or not I guess I won't know unless I push the issue
