Ok, so I test drove two HHR's today...

#1 was an 07 LS, 1SA with the 4 speed auto but the full Pioneer stereo. FE1 suspension

#2 was an 07 LT, 1SB with the 4 speed auto (again, ) but the Sun & Sound package (sunroof and Pioneer radio).. again, FE1 suspension.

I was hoping to take out a 5 speed, but there's only one in my area, it's at a dealer far away, and it's blue. Plus it has no sunroof... so no go there. I'll probably have to order what I want...

So, I compared engines and headroom with and without the sunroof. I like the extra bit of power the 2.4L VVT comes with, but I seriously think the price difference would be worth trying to stuff the 2.2L Eco GM S/C kit on there. If nothing else, I'm sure someone with HP Tuners can copy the GM S/C tables over for me so it runs like it's supposed to. (How different is the base Cobalt PCM from the LS HHR PCM? There's got to be a way there somehow!!)

I have more questions, but I'll re-post later (going for dinner now!)

There is a way, no one's been able to find it yet though! I'm sure in time it will happen. I'll be one of the first in line when it does.

RB's? I'll assume that's running boards. They're standard on both models in Canada.. at least in the 07 brochure.

If there was a way to get that 2.0L turbo motor... the supposedly future-coming SS model... it would be a no-brainer. But... since that's not an option (yet!).. and there's practically no 5 speeds in Vancouver... so I'll have to order what I want and have it built...

There's a problem tho... it's too late for me to order an 07 model (I checked today), and there's no pricing on the 08 models yet. But there are some changes I do like...

LT comes with body-colour mirrors. There's a chrome appearance package with the 17" chrome wheels and the skull cap mirrors if I really wanted the mirrors... but I don't really like chrome, so...

oh, and apparently you can get the LT with a 2.2L again. Might be better for me to order that 08 after all... then try that GM s/c :)

The options I think I'm going to opt for...

Interior, if I went with the LT: Ebony w/Leather Seating Surfaces $1,605 (cheaper than I could do it for). But if I go with the LS, I'll have to go with some Classic Soft Trim heated leather seat covers and DIY it.. probably a little more expensive tho. But it would be more custom :)

Sun and Sound Package $1,980 (tho I might just get the sunroof... skip the stereo... and do the audio myself..)

Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel (maybe i could get this from the parts dept tho?)
Leather Wrapped Shifter Handle

I really don't know if it's worth the extra $935 for the 17" wheels and Sport Suspension package. Sure, it's a good deal if I liked the wheels and knew what that suspension included... but chances are good that I'll change the wheels anyway... and likely upgrade the suspension (springs, dampers, sway bars) anyway... so why not just save the $935?
