Towing with the HHR.

Does anyone here tow jet ski's or a boat with their HHR? If so, are there any issues I need to know about? Does anyone know the tow weight capacity? I'm planning on getting some jet ski's or a small boat and the HHR is all I have to tow with, so just wanted to make sure before I throw away any money.

thanks

Sorry, I have an 06 2.2.

Try the search feature at the top. There are a LOT of posts about towing.

The towing capacity of the vehicle is 1000 lbs and that includes anything in the hhr but the driver. It is also NOT recommended for any manual vehicles, only auto

Any particular reason why? Just curious...

Not towing with a manual transmission is a bunch of bull. Every vehicle I have owned has been equipped with manual transmissions (89 Escort, 98 Tacoma, 90 F-150, 02 Escort, and currently 07 HHR). I use it to tow any time I need to - You just have to know how to shift and clutch properly, ability to judge stopping distance with a load, and how to load a trailer properly. Of course I have 12 years experience driving flatbed delivery trucks. Most recently I towed 1400 pounds of concrete blocks with my HHR with out a single problem. Most people that I know that have a 5-speed think it is a novelty. If you were not meant to tow with a manual transmission - all of the semis and big trucks would be automatics.

Yes, you CAN tow with a manual, but you void any warranty. If you know what you are doing it can be done, but for the avg driver it's not a good idea.... really wears the clutch quickly in city driving.

I have Seadoo XP and have no problems towing it plus all my gear and a coupleof coolers. I would only recommend a single jetski, most are close to 1000 pounds so that's at the limit. Just remember when you are backing to ramp to get the jetski out of the water you will need to open the hatch. You can't see the trailer with mirrors or out of the back window.

The last time I towed it was with my Buick Regal GS (3800SC). The owner's manual recommended driving in third gear and not using the lock up as it taxes the automatic transmission. I towed a U-Haul from NY to Florida averaging 16 mpg. My next trip down, I rented a van.

Thanks, Pontiac. That's what I needed to know.
