Towing HHR 4 down

Just got the HHR tow bracket installed, hitch, tailight diodes and cut off switch for #8 fuse set up on my 2006 HHR to tow behind the motorhome. Took it out today and it tows perfectly 4/down.

Yep, have been towing our 2007 for almost three years now. It tows effortlessly, if I didn't see it in the camera, I wouldn't even know it was there. We just got in yesterday from a two week outing, towing the HHR everywhere with us. What brake system are you using? I had the US Gear system installed, works great. I recomend it. You don't want to tow without a functional brake system, to keep the car from fishtailing in a hard stop, and to keep you legal in most states.

Does it make any difference if you have a manual or automatic transmission?

Just curious, don't ever plan on towing behind a motorhome since I don't have one.

Mine is a five speed, but the automatic in the HHR is ok to tow too. There are many cars that can not be flat towed, with either automatic or manual! Since I needed a car that could safely be towed, the manufactures ok that it could be towed, and would not affect the warrantee was an important criteria when I bought the HHR.

I have towed our 2009 HHR LT 2.4 automatic about 10,000 miles so far and it has worked great - just drop into neutral, add the brake system, and go. I did add a switch to "remove" (turn off) the fuse that makes things much simpler. Great tow car!

As an avid RV'er also, I'm seeing that the HHR is picking up where the Saturn left off. People are finding out about the ease of towability of the HHR. It was one of the factors when I decided on buying one.

For those with the HHR SS model, the only company that makes baseplates to go around the intercooler is DEMCO, part number TP20231.

You are correct about the ease of towing the HHR. Its towability was a major factor when we bought our 2007. I have a Blue Ox base plate, works fine on the LS, and is virtually invisable with the tow tabs removed, unless you know where to look. I haven't a single regret, buying the HHR, its a great tow car, and a great transportation car too. Though when we bought the HHR, we planned to pretty much only use it as a tow car, it turns out, our other two cars have pretty much become dust collectors.

flat towing 4 down

mine is the same 5 speed ss. I used a demco plate and dominator tow bar from demco. Wired the diodes in the back and run the long wire inside the car. through the right door and under the hood to the gripp. The demco stuff workd great. the safety cables were a little short but they replaced them with just a phone call. I can speak really highly about the demco people and they treat you fair. Motordoc
