Towing the HHR

Does anybody here pull their HHR behind their RV (motor home)?

If it can be done safely, I would rather do that than use a tow dolly.

In advance I thank you.

I tow my 07 automatic. Last year I towed it 4500 miles with no problem. I installed the blue ox base plate and tow bar. The blue ox base plate is very much hidden compared to some others when not in use.

When towing the key has to be in the acc position to unlock the steering wheel so you have to pull fuse number 9 so the battery won't go dead. Or you can install a switch to disconnect the fuse. Easy to do.

In your owners manual it stats the hhr's are not recommended to be towed with a tow dolly.

My trip last year I did not use a braking system for the hhr. I had no problems but I did buy a brake buddy system for this year. It's just safer.

You can use the search bar at the top of the page and find more info from other hhr/motorhome owners

Towing

I also tow my 2011 auto trans behind my MH. I installed a Roadmaster baseplate and a diode kit for the rear taillights. Bought a on-off switch with a LED light on the face for the fuse cutoff. When driving on the street LED is on. Switch off for towing- LED is off. Car tows great. Manual says to keep your speed no more than 65MPH. Only thing is the baseplate inserts are fairly low compared to my Jeep Liberty. Had to use a drop extension at the MH receiver to keep the tow bar level. Wireman

Sure do, my 2007, since it was new. The HHR is a great tow car. Mine happens to be a five speed, but the automatics are also towable. We just got home today, and again the HHR never complains. If I recall correctly the manual says you can not tow on a dolly and must tow it four down. I use all Blue Ox tow gear, base plate, tow bar, and US Gear brakes. In almost seven years of towing, have never had a problem.

Thanks all, I didn't know about the tow dolly; just about bought one a couple of months ago.
