Towing with a Manual Transmission ?

I KNOW that the Manual States TOWING with a MANUAL Trans is NOT RECOMMENDED !!!

The Question is has Anyone Done it Anyways ? Did it cause you Any Damage to your HHR ?

I Race Motorcycles on the Weekends and Need to Tow My 500 Pound Bike to the Track. I Really Don't Wan't to Trade in the HHR for Something that Can Actually Tow So I am Wondering if

They say that so they do not have clutch warranty issues. You'll be fine.

If you burn a clutch disc, it's not covered no matter if you were towing or not towing. This is from your warranty booklet.

All vehicles require periodic maintenance. Maintenance services, such as those detailed in the owner manual are the owner's expense. Vehicle lubrication, cleaning, or polishing are not covered. Failure of or damage to components requiring replacement or repair due to vehicle use, wear, exposure, or lack of maintenance is not covered.

Items such as:

• Audio System Cleaning

• Brake Pads/Linings

Clutch Linings

• Coolants and Fluids

• Filters

• Keyless Entry Batteries *

• Limited Slip Rear Axle Service

• Tire Rotation

• Wheel Alignment/Balance **

• Wiper Inserts

are covered only when replacement or repair is the result of a defect in material or workmanship.

* Consumable battery covered up to 12 months only.

** Maintenance items after 7,500 miles.

I have an 08 2.4 w/ manual trans. I tow a 400 lb sailboat with gear and my wife or daughter. I have had no problems with towing. I start easy, accelerate on a steady curve and no hard down shifting. The obvious issue is the light weight nature of the HHR. You do feel the trailer move around the back end of the car. It is not bad just takes a little getting used to.

Manual transmission is better for towing. Having the manual transmission lets your car use engine braking more accurately. You'll have greater control over the transmission and lower initial purchase cost too.

If it's a structural issue, then automatic equipped HHRs couldn't tow anything either.
As an aside,I once had a '71 Firebird Formula 455 H.O.(4 speed) that wasn't recommended for towing either.That had to be structural issue-if a 455 couldn't tow something,what could?
