Towing and Trailers
#11
I've towed a 12 foot trailer loaded with 2 four-wheelers, coupla jugs of gas, and other miscellaneous stuff...it's a 2.2l with automatic. I kept it in "I" on the transmission to keep it from downshifting on every little rise in the road...averaged about 22,23 mpg. It actually handled the load quite well, it was just a tad underpowered.

Besides the regular bike rack for my bicycle, this is the extent of my towing with my 2.4l 2LT... pulled like an absolute champ though for 400 miles from Mid-Michigan, through the City of Chicago and up to where I live.

Hey Tony,
I am a Tear Drop Trailer fan. Look in my Gallery, there are a couple of pics of my tear drop. The trailer is a 4X8, weighs 700# and would tow great behind an HHR. Even a stick HHR should be fine ( they are fine in Europe ).
I have not put a hitch on the HHR yet. I tow the trailer with a '57 chevy 6 cyl sedan. I plan to put some surfing graphics on the trailer and tow with the HHR.

I don't know about towing an "HH" but my post was intended to let you know that it will tow up to 1000 lbs without problems.

Love those spyders !! I am about ready for a trike and will tow it places also.
Looks like another trailer project on the way !
The hitch I like is the hidden hitch ( made by draw tight I think ) with the curved ball mount. That with the plug and play wire harness from e-trailer
good to go.

I tow a small sailboat (400 lbs) anround here in Denver. I have been towing boats since I first got my drivers license and the HHR does a good job. I can feel the back end move around a little but not much. Works as a stable platform.

Abracadabra Racing trailer
This is our racing rig. The trailer is an Excalibur, weight is 880lb and hauls two small motocross bikes. Both the light weight of the trailer and the aero design makes it trail like nothing is there. Computer usually shows around 23mpg. Hitch is a hidden hitch. HHR is a 2lt with the 2.4. Works well, gets lots of attention at the track.
