TPMS and Winter Tires?

Anyone out there using a different set of rims and didn't get the TPMS installed? I'm curious if there is any other side effects other than the light being on in the dash? Any check engine lights or issues getting inspected? I'm going to order a set of steel rims for my wife's Honda Civic and put winter tires on without the TPMS. Sorry but $250 for rims, $300 for tires is more than I can afford. Another $340 for TPMS breaks the bank.
I'm also going to do this on my HHR SS when I get my hands on some rims.

Jim

I would like to know this too. I have my snow tires on the stock SS rims and have a set in the wings that I need to get HP summer tires for. I do not know if I will be able to afford the TPMS for the 2nd set.

I have never personally done it on my car however I work at a rental agency and we get cars in all the time that get flats and break the sensors and we will run the cars with out the sensor until they are available. Have not had one problem with running with out them except for the tmps light, and people that are worried about it. Ran toyotas, fords, chevys, like this, you should be ok.

Not sure on an HHR but my Malibu won't remote start when the TPMS light is on.

I have run my summer wheels without the TPM's for two years and never had a problem. Once you get use to the light being on you will never notice it.

I used snow wheels and tires all last year (and already have them on this year but hush because I'll be blamed for the cold weather all of a sudden).

The light comes on and you get the initial beeping when you get in the car but besides that no ill effects. I remote start daily and have no other issues besides the light.

Ya, Thanks if we get snow in the next 2 weeks im blaming you! I haven't been able to buy any Winter Rims for my HHR. Then again i haven't even bought a Snow Blower yet. With Wedding & House in the same year, we have no money.

Now taking donations.

My new set of TPMS are on the way from http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=330377958279
When this auction ends look at "see other items from this seller".
They always have them, new set of 4 for ~$60 shipped.
