Thank you for the picture TomsHHR. I was wondering what an HHR could tow since they are so limited. A picture is worth a 1000 words.
Thank you

See ya down the road

I installed the Hidden Hitch from e-trailers last night and it installed just like their instructions.
My trailer plus motorcycle is just over 1000 pounds so we will see how it does with the bike behind the HHR. My RAV4 just didn't have enough poop to pull it.

Thanks for the info here on installation!

Hidden hitch towing small motorcycle trailer

I had a hidden hitch installed by my dealer, they did a good job. I just made a trip from Daytona Beach to CT. with several stops on the way. I experienced no problems at all. My little HHR did a fine job & I havent figured it out exactly yet, but I got around 22mpg. My HHR has the 2.4 engine & the auto tranny.

Looking to add a hitch to mine to haul my Harley Sportster.

However, haven't bought the car yet. Been planning on a manual transmission (I've been in one accident I feel could've been avoided with a stick rather than the delay of my auto)... has anyone towed with a stick? Would you recommend the auto instead?

I think that I remember reading from the manual a statement saying specifically NOT to tow anything if you have the stick. Not that it can't be done, but guess what happens to your transmission warranty if you do....

Better safe than sorry in this case: get the automatic if you want to tow.

Completely not what I wanted to hear. Wondering if you could type up that part of the manual?

I've really grown to distrust automatic transmissions. I drive stick whenever possible.

The HHR owner's manuals are stickied in the service/problems forum.

Page 276 of the 2007 manual. That's exactly what it says: Don't do it. No further explaination.

I was leaning towards getting the stick as well, and I wasn't aware of this limitation. It's a good thing that I changed my mind at the last minute (for other reasons). As far as auto transmissions go, GM's are usually really good/reliable, although not bleeding edge technology.

I really don't regret getting it.
