Unsure of what I want to do...

Well, I'm generally a stock-kinda guy, but lately I've been throwing around ideas of what I could do with my 1LT. I'm satisfied with the alloy wheels that I have right now (they're way better than the 14" hub caps I had on my last car) but I'd eventually like to get some new rims... Also, probably before anything else, I'd love to get a power sunroof installed, but that's $1,200 I could spend on something else right now. I'd also like some red neons and clear parking light lenses on the bumpers, plus the spyderlites. It's just a matter of my lazy self taking the initiative to get on a project, haha... any suggestions?

Well Perry...I'm sure you've seen enough of me to know I'm pretty opinionated...so based on what you have said...this is probably what I would do if I had your black HHR.

While I loved the alloy wheels on my HHR as well...the more I saw chrome wheels on them...the better I liked that look. Finally, one day I took the plunge and had my American Racing Casino wheels put on...and it gave the car a whole new look...and it's driver a whole new attitude. Adding aftermarket wheels to your car separates it from all the other new HHR's that are popping up and really jazzes it up in my opinion.

Now...as far as the other things...I myself can do without the sunroof...and like you said...that's $1,200 you could spend on other mods (like new wheels...) Being a grandma to 6 and from the old school...I'm not big on the neon lights and clear lenses...but that's a grandma thing. But...I do like the spider lite tail light idea...sounds kinda cool to me.

We might be able to help you with the initiative thing too. We can be really good at In any event, it's really up to what you feel is most important to you. Maybe make a list of mods you'd like to do and prioritize them in order of importance to you and set a deadline to complete each one.

Hope this helps...I better go to bed now before I continue to ramble any more. Good luck and we look forward to hearing what you decide to do.

Perry, I am with Deb about the sunroof. Unless you drive very slow, there is a lot of drag and noise in the car from a sunroof being open. As far as the wheels. I have a little different take on it. I think the 17" polished alluminum wheels that are stock are some of the best looking rims out there when they are polished and kept clean. I really like the spider lights. I think the next mod would be for me to get the sway bar and also the new intake system from SoCal. Just another thought and Idea, but the decission is yours and whatever you choose is fine.

My only suggestion is like the old carpenter saying, measure twice before cutting...in your case, think twice ( maybe more ) about what you want to do being spending your money. So often we do mods that don't give us the results we hoped for, the end result is a waste of money...if you have money to waste please send me some.

Perry, Take advantage of where you are, just cruise the forum and you will see so many examples of things that you could consider doing to your HHR, then just make it suit you...

Then sunroof is definitely a better deal coming in a stock package, but I hear ya on liking and wanting one.

We have it in ours, and had it even in our Vibe ( A "Moon and Tune" package in the Vibe). I really think sunroofs make these smaller cars much more usable/friendlier for me. The sunroofs open up the car in a nice way.

Just don't leave it open in the rain as we did in out Taurus SHO. We looked at the ruined headliner for a decade after that incident

I'm a member of the "Just say NO to NEONS!!!" Organization. And I'm from the neon era. Never liked them. Looked cheap to me. But that's just personal taste. Obviously a lot of people do like them as there's a market for them.

I wish I had a sunroof too. That's one thing I didn't get with my car that I wish I had. Beggars can't be choosers though, and finding a 5-speed 2.4 was more important to me than a sunroof. I wouldn't spend $1200 on an aftermarket one though. That's just me.

Frankly, an after-market sun-roof in an HHR is something to question. Is the after-market installer providing the same structural integrity as the manufacturer? The HHR does not have a lot of metal in the roof.... as stated by other forum threads in regard to the roof-rails.

I think Scaleguy is giving you the best advise!!! Read and watch for awhile, then decide.

[QUOTE=Holmes Hot Ride]Perry, I am with Deb about the sunroof. Unless you drive very slow, there is a lot of drag and noise in the car from a sunroof being open. QUOTE]

Not to be contrary or anything...
When you add a rain guard (Wind guard...whatever they call it) to the sun roof it cuts the noise to almost NIL

With the HHR's smaller than normal Windshield and the huge A Bar the HHR kinda has a cave feel to it. Which is nice on bright days, makes it so you don't really need sunglasses (Which I lost mine so was perfect)...
And like other have said, having the sun roof opens up the car and makes it feel less like a cave.

As for the Neon, ya, I don't like it...but that's just me.

RIMS, I'm more like Deb on this...right now I'm in the stage of I don't need em, so why waste the money...but....ummm...ya, Chrome baby....so...ya...there ya go.
