Upper package shelf in HHR (pictures)
The floor in the wayback of the HHR can be raised up and placed in slots about a foot above the floor. I went to the junkyard and bought a second floor and placed it in the top slots, turning it into a package shelf. It cost less than $15 and took seconds to install. Now I have a small area under the package shelf that is hidden from prying eyes. You can put small light items such as blankets on top of the package shelf. As you can see in the pictures. there is room for a tool box and a floor jack and a jump starter and extra room to put other things you want hidden. The shelf removes in seconds if you want to use the car as a station wagon. Here are some pictures of the package shelf in place.

Yeah was thinking this myself. but for me, I, get a cable bicycle lock and run it through the heavy stuff and a cargo tie-down to make sure it ,,, 1. It doesn't smack me n the back of the head in an accident ( i know seats up tray in place....but that may not be the case in a crash . & 2. Even though your goodies are out of sight , that fact may prompt a not-so-nice person to want to take a peek!

I did that several years ago. Except I keep the other side up, it is strong enough that I can put two cases of bottled water on top. You got yours a lot cheaper than mine. But new they were about $150 if I remember correctly. Seems like I paid about $50.

Thanks. I don't remember where I got the idea, but I really like it. If I'm visiting a sketchy part of town I can put everything under there and take everything out of the car itself. I don't see a burglar taking the chance of there not being anything under the upper floor. They would find a car with a visible laptop inside and take it. Somebody who is not familiar with HHRs they might think the false floor is the actual floor and pass it by for the car that he knows has something in it. The false floor also comes in handy when shopping at multiple stores or going on roadtrips.

We did that to ours also and had two shelves for the last couple of years we owned it. We took the one from our nieces HHR before she sold it
