!!URGENT!!! Ask Questions to a GM Bigwig!!
Tomorrow, before the charity event at GM Powertrain to commemorate GM's 100th and Tonawanda Powertrain's 70th anniversaries, a chosen group of GMPT employees have been given a chance to have a Q&A session with Troy Clark, GM Division Vice President. My wife was picked to be one of the employees in the session.
If you have any questions for Troy Clark, please post them here. I'll pass them along to my wife this evening. Please post your question before 7pm EDT (4pm PDT) Thursday.

I have one. Right now it concerns 2007 Tahoe/Suburbans, but I hope this system will be on all models one day.
Why does "Active Fuel Management" not engage when the vehicle is idling? Fuel consumption while sitting at a stop light would be greatly reduced.

passlock security systems are failing, leaving wives and kids stranded. very scarey when your car wont start because your stock security system wont allow you to start your car. the cost of replacement is 500 bucks min.
why no recall. being stranded is very unsafe. your losing chevy customers
by the 1000's. check any forum

You want a real answer? Or one that a VP will say? The real answer is because Active Fuel Management is a cruel joke, more of a marketing ploy. It's so us he-men type guys can tell their wives that an Impala SS is fuel efficient and good for the environment, when in reality, it's only going to shut down at highway speeds under low load when your 8 cylinder is already working at peak efficieny. My Impala avereged 13 MPG, in spite of claims of 28 MPG by GM. Maybe downhill in a vacuum.

I would like to know what GM is doing to address the continual failure of the rotors in their entire line of products. How can we believe in GM when there is no improvement on warped rotors. This should be a no-brainer - obtain better steel and drill/slot them for their cars. If they can't address something as simple as this, how are we supposed to believe in their ability to get the computerized items straight?

Active fuel engages at all speeds from 5mph on up. For the last 2 weeks I have been testing the Tahoe to see what MPG I could get during my 6 mile, all city drive home. If I stay out of the throttle while driving 35-40 and hit the traffic lights when they are green I can run on 4 cylinders for 2.5 miles. But if I hit a red light the MPG drops drastically while I idle, so that is where my question to GM comes from.
After 2 weeks of efficient driving I got a whopping 15.4 MPG. I just believe this would of been higher with active management engaged at idle.
But staying this concious of how I am driving is absolutely boring and a pain, so I am done with this little test. Now I am going to go refuel for $3.41/gallon.

If I remember correctly it is bob.lutz@gm.com.
Most people at GM are e mail is the first name . last name @ GM.com.
I learned this reshearching prototype parts a few years back. I got ahold of a lot of people at the Tech Center and elsewhere just using this combo.
I know some of the guys on Cheerandgears.com e mail him regularly and get replys. Scott Settlmire of GM also confirmed to us Lutz does answer them personaly.
