Used car Warranty
Well...
with the purchase of my second HHR 2009 2LT with 32K miles the dealership has offered a GM 4 year 48K miles bumper to bumper warranty for 1200 bucks...
Any Idea on whether or not there are better deals to be had...I go on Wednesday to stroke the final check...

I do need to double check to be sure. he did say GM warranty so I assumed GMPP.. but sales guys will be sales guys... wanted to sell undercoating, paint protection (on a 4 year old car), stain repellant (not sure how you'd stain black leather)
He originally said 3/36 when I passed on it, he said think about it and when I come back on Wednesday He'd up the coverage to 4/48 for the same price.

I'm not sure undercoating or paint protection is necessary on a used car. I looked at a new car that the dealer had listed over $1000 in dealer add ons. Like stain repellant on leather seats, paint sealant( wax?), door edge molding (clear plastic strip) for $200 plus other stuff. In reality, it is just another way dealers jack up the price of a car and do nothing, even if you pay for it.
I have had "rust proofing" added to new cars when I lived in the rust belt and it was either not done properly or was ineffective, just expensive.

The price sounds "too good to be true"
The price is mainly mileage sensitive.
Here is some thing you need to ask before you take the bait.
The "GM Protection Plan" has 3 Levels.
Major Guard .. Best
Value Guard .. Fair
Basic Guard .. Lowest
You need to review each plan level and decide what coverage you want.
They will all be priced differently.
Make sure the quote is complete and in writing by a qualified and dealer approved sales person, not just anybody.
Most Dealers run the sales thru the finance or closing dept.
BE CAREFUL !!!

I'm not getting sucked into the paint protection, scotch guard, undercoating... Juts surprised that dealers still try this...
My old HHR was been in the north east and every time I've been under it, no evidence of rust... I think the corrosion protection from the factory is pretty good..
SF,
yeah I know Caveat emptor... on the extended warranties... I have access to a full garage and mechanics at work.. so i have not visited a commercial shop in a long time... reading the boards the HHR has been pretty trouble free with no major costs...
1200 for 4 extra years and 48K miles seems very good... If it is GMPP Major then I would be foolish to not take it...IMO...

Find out if it is $100 or Zero deductable.
They offer both plans in all levels.

Cute little dealership add ons.
After not buying a vehicle from a dealership for many years, we couldn't find an HHR from a private owner that we wanted .... so I once again entered the "Great American Dealership Game". I see their game really hasn't changed much over the years. I had to experience the endless money grab techniques, especially the mindless ad ons they try to foist on you. The most hilarious one being a certain dealership's insistence that I pay a $400.00 "window etching fee" that they tried to hide in the dealer/documentation fees. If I wanted to, I could do the same job for around $25.00. The sales pitch for the extended warranties was also a fun game to play. I had to move on from several dealers when I caught them in outright lies. One even tried to assure me that Chevrolet had NEVER issued service bulletins for HHR braking issues. I guess this is yet another post cautioning us all to CAREFULLY check these add ons and insist on a breakdown of all the dealer/documentation fees. Know what you will spend before hitting the dealers and know when to say "NO" and walk away. We finally found the HHR we wanted in an adjoining state. It was worth a day trip to save about $1500.00.

The way I see it is usually the Warranty begins with the Original IN SERVICE date which means you are in reality paying $1200 for about a year and expires THIS YEAR!! I would put the $1200 aside and and use it far past the 4 years if needed. A certified HHR would have been a better warranty.
The only reason I bought a warranty on my Taco is because it was 7/75 (I put 4K a year on it.) from the 2008 in service date. Good until 2015 for $510 Ordered from a dealer in Massachusetts who sells real Toyota Care warranties over the phone. If it would have been over $800 I would have covered myself.
I am two years into the warranty and have not used it nor do I expect to but its a good value added warranty for a transfer.
OH and make sure your buy offer includes EVERYTHING BUT TAX AND TITLE Otherwise they will hit you with "doc fees" which is nothing but additional gross profit
