You know, it's like saying your a/c isn't working properly when you don't even turn the correct switch(s) on (which, according to this forum and others, a lot of people do).
I can question the logic. If I don't reset it, it does nothing for me. I could have mud in there and the oil life wouldn't indicate it. It calculates based on engine revolutions...so if my Chevy sits for a while I need not be concerned about the oil? eh...Regardless, I personally will probably never get any use out of this function.

btw....useless function: automatic windshield wipers
You know...I'm just going to say this all the time, "READ YOUR OWNERS BOOK". I'm amazed at the questions that are asked here that are answered in THAT BOOK....nobody seems to read it. And, as I wrote on here and other forums, it tends to be men....the macho thing...we know it all. As someone once said here, "kind of like not asking for directions when we're lost".

Again, I'll say...that I participated in the study that GM performed regarding dealer services. Among their many findings...... more than half of the questions and/or problems experienced by dealers in initial contact with consumers was answered IN THE OWNERS BOOK.

You bet!!!

But it's kind of like anything else...you need to do something. I'm being stupid here, but why not have the vehicle change its own oil, rotate tires, filters, etc.
On a more serious note, it would be the same with some of the other functions in the DIC. Two trip odometers...the original intent was to accurately measure miles for a portion of travel and then for total travel....maybe people use it, maybe they don't.

But, I still go along with your origianl premise.... maybe a better question is, "How many people pay ANY kind of attention to it?". Then form an opinion from that.

Oh, I do use it. But, I change the oil in the neighborhood of 30-50%.

The oil change issue, is a completely different topic and has been addressed elsewhere.

What I find useless, or troublesome, is the steering wheel lock that is on the HHR. When I first picked up my vehcile (almost a year ago) I had it towed on the third day. I went and picked it up and the steering wheel had locked. This meant not being able to start the vehicle without first releasing the lock.

The directions are in the owners manual but what a hassle. You have to remove a cover under the steering wheel, find some pin and push it in (which was not easy) and well I can't remember the exact steps but it was the most useless thing ever.

I lock my steering wheel all the time. You just twist it a bit and the key will turn just fine. You don't have to pull any covers off. And BTW... THANK YOU SNOOPY. Trying to keep my mouth shut on people not reading the same stuff. The day I brought my HHR home I brough the manual in and read it 2 or 3 times just looking at all the cool stuff!

What raised this issue with me, if you remember, is I questioned the extreme high temps that I experienced on a recent "run". The temp. gage hardly moved and the DIC read-out was 228. I believe the digital figures to be more accurate, but why not supply trans. temp on the DIC like the Grand Prix or G6 (?).....in addition to the engine temp.

I guess my idea of a useless function on the HHR would actually be a useless feature. The stupid do nothing 8" factory Pioneer subwoofer. I have had 6X9s that hit harder than that thing.

I agree, and with all the issues people seem to have with the outside temp number reading incorrectly, is it really 32 degrees outside or 36 or 28 or anywhere else??? Mine is always about 4-5 degrees off in either direction, you can never tell.
