I think this will work

I took the steering colum apart and cut off the motor area with a band saw. Then I cut the brake pedal mount almost in half to make room for it to go behind the steering colum area. I took the plasma torch and removed the area on the steering colum mount that interfered with the brake pedal mount. I don't have much room but I think it will work. I'll have to rebuild the brake pedal and it's mount but I think there is enough clearance to get by. I don't know what sort of dog-leg I'll need on the brake pedal but it shouldn't be a problem. I will have to re-enforce the brake pedal bracket quite a bit to get the rigidity back in it. I cut it up quite a bit. The red line on the first picture shows where I cut it.

Great excuse to go 2500 miles. I'm aboard.

Depending on when it falls, I'm there. It's 1200 miles for me, if i just shoot down I-5. 1400 if I take the 101.

Steering / Master Cylinder problem solved

I need to machine a short piece and weld it on to the HHR steering linkage U joint to connect to the Camaro linkage. I also need to weld up the fire wall holes I cut but I'm sure things will work.

Steering shaft

Spent some time at the lathe yesterday and made the coupling piece to mate Camaro and HHR steering shafts. I welded it in place and it fits good. Since I now have 4 U joints in the shaft instead of 3 I will have to make a support mid way down the shaft to stabilize it. (typical race car/sand rail stuff) I also have to fab and weld in a section of sheet steel with the rubber grommet that the shaft goes thru the firewall. I think I will incorporate it into the brake pedal bracket to strengthen that area.
